About the exhibition

As a wildlife vet, I find myself frequently at the coalface of man’s impact on the natural world around him. As a photographer I have a deep desire to expose this impact to a wider audience - to draw attention to the collateral damage that results from our relentless expansion.

This is an exhibition of the amazing intimate moments I have shared with wildlife across the State of Western Australia. Whether healthy, injured or no longer among the living, these animals all have stories to tell. These are occasionally happy stories, but more often they are tales of tragedy that move me and motivate me to act.

Setting up a remote triggered flash in the fiberglass hospital hotboxes at the Kanyana Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, I accidentally found myself shooting native creatures in an eggshell studio environment. The dramatic isolation of these subjects immediately resonated with me. It created an environment that draws attention to the beauty and fragility of these unique animals. I soon equipped myself with a small folding “light tent” and began to shoot more eggshell studio images in other locations around the State. More recently this has been augmented with a full size white eggshell studio that I have set up in my home but can also set up at the Veterinary Hospital I practice from.

Orphans, highway victims, recovering lawnmower attack survivors, and even healthy wild things continue to fascinate me and draw my focus, and that fascination has culminated in the display I have prepared for the FotoFreo Fringe Festival.

50% of all profits from this exhibition will go to Kanyana to help support the work they do.
